Is My Information Kept Private?

Absolutely. Your data is not stored, shared, or used for any purpose other than generating your personalized calculation. We don’t require an email to see your results.

How much can a prenup save me in future legal fees?

Contested divorces in BC can involve substantial legal fees when both parties hire separate lawyers to negotiate asset division, spousal support, and property rights. These costs multiply when disputes drag on for months or require court appearances. A prenup addresses these issues upfront when both parties are cooperative, typically requiring much less time and expense. The exact savings vary by situation, but we believe that a prenup should more than pay for itself in reduced future legal fees alone.

What if we don’t have many assets yet?

The calculator factors in your current situation plus future earning potential, expected inheritances, business growth, and property appreciation. It also includes your potential liability for spousal support without an agreement. Many couples are surprised to learn they’re protecting far more than they initially thought, especially when career growth and family wealth transfers are considered.

Does this replace getting actual legal advice?

No – this calculator approximates what’s potentially at stake and helps you make an informed decision about whether to pursue legal protection. Key Assumptions Used in This Calculator

To keep this calculator as simple as possible, we had to make a lot of assumptions.
These generally reflect the worst plausible case scenario.

•Annual Savings at Average Canadian household savings rate: 5.7% of gross income per year. No savings assumed for your spouse.
• Annual salary increase rate: 3.6% (Canadian average) per year.
• Business valuation: Calculated (conservatively) at 1.5x annual revenue.
• Investment growth rate: 10.5% annually (based on historical S&P 500 returns). Note: applies to all savings and assets.
• Spousal support: 30% of difference in projected incomes (2% × 15 years marriage, SSAG high range).
• Adding pension calculations was too complicated, so this does not include lost pension, which may be significant
• Inheritances/gifts: includes 7.5 years of appreciation (actual value may vary based upon date received)
• Calculation period: 15 years of marriage, the approximate average length of a marriage that ends in divorce.
• All figures assume worst-case scenario for asset division without prenup. This is meant to reflect the maximum total savings one could reasonably expect through an enforceable prenuptial agreement.
