Getting married in beautiful British Columbia? Congratulations! While you’re planning your wedding and future together, it’s also smart to think about how to protect your finances just in case life takes an unexpected turn.

That’s where a prenuptial agreement (or “prenup”) comes in. One of the first questions couples ask is: “How much does a prenup cost in BC?”

At Freedom Family Law, we help couples across BC create fair, clear, and legally strong prenups. Because we work fully remotely, our prices are often lower than the industry average—without sacrificing quality or service.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what you can expect to pay, what’s included, and what can affect the final cost.

How Much Does a Prenup Cost in BC?

For most couples, a prenuptial agreement costs between $2,000 and $3,000.

Thanks to our remote-first approach, we’re able to keep our services efficient and affordable, offering top-tier legal support at rates lower than many traditional firms.

What’s Included in That Price?

A prenup isn’t just a form—it’s a personalized legal document that reflects your relationship, finances, and future goals. Here’s what’s typically included when you work with our team:

  • Free 15-Minute Consult: Chat with a member of our team over the phone to discuss your goals. If you’re a good fit, you will move on to speak with an experienced lawyer.
  • Meeting with a Lawyer: Depending on the complexity of your case, you will either have a 20 minute case review or a 1 hour strategy session with a lawyer to discuss your situation. If we decide to work together, we will discount the cost of this call from the price of the agreement.
  • Legal Advice: We clearly walk you through your rights and responsibilities so you can make confident decisions.
  • Help with Financial Disclosure: We help you gather and organize the financial information needed to make your agreement valid. This could include debts, assets, businesses, and inheritance.
  • Custom Agreement Drafting: We build your prenup from the ground up, using personalized language that precisely reflects your assets, debts, income, inheritances, and future expectations.
  • Negotiation Support: If your partner has their own lawyer or wants to make changes, we’ll guide you through the process.
  • Final Review & Signing: We’ll go through the final version together and witness the signing over Zoom, for convenience and speed.

What Can Make a Prenup Cost More?

While many prenups stay within the $2K–$3K range, a few factors can lead to higher fees:

  • Lots of Assets: More time is needed if you or your partner own multiple properties, international assets, or large investment accounts.
  • Business Ownership: We may need to include protections around business value, future profits, or partnerships.
  • Custom Clauses: Want to include terms for spousal support, future inheritances, or pet custody? We’ll build it in, but it can take extra drafting time.
  • Negotiation Back-and-Forth: If you and your partner have very different ideas, legal discussions may take more time.
  • Complicated Finances: Missing documents or unclear financial info can slow things down and increase legal time.

Why Getting a Prenup Is a Smart Move

No one gets married expecting it to end, but a prenup gives both partners peace of mind. It sets clear expectations, protects your assets, and reduces conflict in the future—saving you from emotional stress and legal costs if things don’t go as planned.

Think of it as a thoughtful, respectful step toward protecting each other.
